An agreement between you, the chatter, and SilverCrossings.net. Please read this carefully before you hit the accept button.

Article 1 - Acceptance of Terms

(i) Using the services provided by SilverCrossings.net means that you have read and understand the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP), and that you agree to follow the rules on this page. Ignorance of the rules isn't an excuse, so please read this document carefully. The AUP may be updated occasionally, and we will definately mention it in the updates when we do, but it's not the responsibility of the SilverCrossings staff to make sure that you're aware of the changes. You can always view the most current version at http://www.silvercrossings.net/index.php?page=AUP&action=View.

(ii) The SC staff does not have the authority to handle any problems you may encounter while using other services, like Instant Messagers, IRC, or other chat sites. This means we can't ban a user for something they said in AIM or ICQ. We can only handle stuff that happens on thissite, SilverCrossings.net. If you're having problems with users on other services, then you should refer to their Terms of Service or AUP.

(iii) Everything that has to do with SilverCrossings, be it the chat service or other aspects of the site, are subject to the AUP.

(i) Please provide complete and accurate information when you sign-up for an account, and keep this information updated as needed. If it turns out that any of the information is false or incomplete, than SilverCrossings has the right to suspend or delete your account.

(ii) In order to validate your account you have to provide a current e-mail address - otherwise your SilverCrossings account won't be activated. Please make sure that we always have your current e-mail address, or your account may be deleted.

(iii) You MUST be 13 years old or older in order to have an account on SilverCrossings. This is the law (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA)). Any accounts held by someone below the age of 13 will be immediately deleted.

(i) SilverCrossings will never give out or sell any of the personal information that you provide.

(ii) Therefore, please keep all your information updated and current so that the staff can contact you, should the need ever arise.

(iii) All posts and user activity on the site will be logged, monitored and stored in a database. SilverCrossings will never give out this information publicly, but the staff may use it to gather statistics, mediate conflicts, investigate service abuse, or if we're required to by law, so long as the privacy policy is not violated.

(iv) It's your responsibility to keep your password and username a secret. Don't tell anyone these things, and it's suggested that you log off at the end of each session. If someone abuses your account, then contact the staff as soon as possible. SilverCrossings is not responsible for anything that goes wrong if you've been giving out your account information.

(i) Content posted by any user is the sole responsibility of that user, and not SilverCrossings. This includes stuff like graphics, text, data, information, URL links etc. However, should the staff find out about a user posting inappropriate links and/or potentially offensive content, they will warn, suspend and/or ban that user for breaking the AUP.

(ii) Any user caught "imping" (impersonating or stealing/creating a handle in order to pretend to be a SC Staff, Host, Room Staff or other users), will be immediately banned for an indefinite amount of time.

(iii) Content that is not allowed to be made available through the SilverCrossings system via post or URL link at any time: Unlawful, threatening, harmful, abusive, harassing, torturous, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another's property, hateful, harmful to minors or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable.

(iv) "Spamming" (the practice of flooding a chat room with advertisements), recruiting users from SilverCrossings for other chat sites, or advertising for other chat systems is not allowed in any manner. Neither is dissing or belittling other chat systems. Please avoid publicly talking about other chat systems in the rooms, as it invariably leads to unnecessary and unwanted tensions and disputes between systems.

Interoom advertising (advertising for rooms on SilverCrossings in other rooms on SilverCrossings) is allowed, so long as the room owner doesn't object. Please be sure to read their entrance/splash pages and check with the room Hosts before advertising or using room titles in another person's room.

(v) Users are not allowed to use the SilverCrossings system and services to do anything illegal or break any laws.

(vi) Do not belittle, abuse, defame or place into the ignore feature any of the members of the SilverCrossings Administration. They work hard to make this site a safe and enjoyable place to chat, and do their best to remain fair and impartial. Bans aren't issued lightly, and they will almost always be preceded by warnings. If you have problems with one or more of the SilverCrossings Admin, please e-mail them or another member of the Admin, and they will work it through with you.

(vii) Do not harass the other users on the site. This means to attack or persistently insult or belittle another person over a period of time. Anyone who is proven to be harassing another user will be warned to sever all contact with that individual. If they persist in their harassment, they will be local banned from having contact with that person, and banned from the site if the problem persists.

Room Staff may ban offenders of this system for harassment for as long as they like. If a user is banned from three or more rooms because of this, that user will be site-banned for an indefinate period of time.

(i) For a small donation, SilverCrossings will make available webhosting services. This is NOT the same as owning a room, which is a free service. Webhosting services include storing HTML character sheets and character pictures for use in the SilverCrossings rooms, only. However, this does not include using the services for file storage for other sites, messageboard or e-board avatars or remote hosting for other sites or chat sites. This seriously eats up the SilverCrossings resources. If an account is found using excessive bandwidth for remote image linking, some or all of the files will be removed.

(ii) Users are bound by copyright laws. If any material is found in a user's account that violates these laws, it will be removed and the user will be warned of possible banning. SilverCrossings has the right to periodically check accounts to make sure that there are no violations, either of copyright or any other laws.

(iii) Pages hosted by SilverCrossings that receive too many complaints will be investigated and, if found to be offensive or illegal, then the owner will be informed, and the material removed.

You understand and agree that:

(i). You use SilverCrossings at your own risk. The service is provided "as is." SilverCrossings disclaims all warranties of any kind, including (but not limited to) merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

(ii). SC does not gaurantee that:

(a)The service will meet your requirements

(b) Will be uninterrupted/timely/secure/error-free

(c) That results taken from the service will be accurate or reliable

(d) Any items purchased or obtained through SilverCrossings will meet your expectations

(e) Any errors in the software will be corrected.

(iii). SilverCrossings is not responsible for any damage to your computer or loss of data due to material you have downloaded from the site.

(iv). None of the advice or information given by any member of SilverCrossings will create any guarantees that are not already stated in the AUP.

You, the user, agree and understand that SilverCrossings will not be held liable for ANY damages done to loss of profits, goodwill, use, data or other intagible losses that result from:

(i) The ability or inability to use the services

(ii) The cost of substitute goods and services resulting from any materials purchased or obtained, or messages received or transactions entered into or through the service.

(iii) Unauthorized access or alterations of your transmission or data

(iv) statements or conduct of any third party on the service

(v) Any other matter relating to the service

Notices will be provided privately for the user using e-mail or regular mail, or by displaying notices or links to notices to the general public on the service - usually the News Update section of the main page. This includes changes to the AUP and upcoming events or services.

Please report all violation of the AUP to the SilverCrossings staff using the form, and be able to cite what portion of the AUP has been violated and at what time and place this occured. Remember that SilverCrossings can't handle altercations that occur on other services like Instant Messenger or online diaries. All terms are non-disputable. Appeals for bans can be made through the staff department. All users will be issued one warning to cease their improper activity before they are banned.
